What is SCYLC?
SCYLC (Social Change and Youth Leadership Conference) is an annual two-day conference, held at the University of Toronto's St. George Campus, which allows high school students across Ontario to come together to discuss the impacts of social change and their roles as leaders of tomorrow.
Organized by Engineers Without Borders' (EWB) U of T Chapter, SCYLC gives high school students the opportunity to learn and raise awareness about international development beyond the opportunities offered in classrooms, as well as to develop leadership and critical thinking skills necessary for success in the future.
Beginning with the Social Change and Youth Leadership Conference in May of 2015, Global Development Club x EWB UofT now aims to increase its impact towards high school students. Our goal is to give students the opportunity to collaborate and develop the skills needed to spark real change. Global Development Club nurtures youth groups and creates a functioning team environment for members to learn and grow together. Members begin to acquire a sound knowledge-base and engage themselves in engineering systems thinking, so they can start to discern issues in poverty alleviation, sustainable development, technological capital and fair trade.

This year's theme: Global Health Development and Medicine
This year’s conference is about healthcare beyond biomedicine - to explore holistic solutions in the political, social, and technological spheres to solve local and global systemic health problems.
Delegates who register for SCYLC will spend their two days learning what they can do to spark social change and develop their leadership skills through case competitions, keynote speakers, and hands-on design experience. This conference is open to all disciplines and fields of study; former delegates who have attended SCYLC have gone into a variety of fields including music, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences. Students who choose to stay overnight will get a chance to experience U of T residence life at New College Residence.
